Enforcement landscape
Long Island projects fall under Nassau and Suffolk County building departments plus town and village authorities, not NYC DOB. OSHA enforcement applies as the federal floor.
Long Island projects operate entirely outside the NYC DOB regime. Nassau and Suffolk County projects are reviewed by town and village building departments — each with their own permit process, inspection cadence, and safety plan review standards. There is no equivalent to the NYC §3310 Site Safety Manager requirement. OSHA 29 CFR 1926 applies as the federal floor for worker safety, and OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 credentialing is the primary credential framework for safety personnel on most Long Island commercial and residential projects. Crane operations on Long Island require town-level permits and, in some cases, county review. The practical result is that a GC used to working under NYC DOB will find Long Island compliance more OSHA-centric and less prescriptive about daily logbook documentation, but no less scrutinized in the event of a citation or incident.
